DISCUSSION:         Wilmington Garden Club – Children’s Memorial Garden

ACTION:                   Judy Wunderlich spoke on behalf of the Wilmington Garden Club.  The Wilmington Garden Club has funds available for the installation of an underground sprinkler system at Children’s Memorial Garden, which will be installed in spring 2008.  The Club’s concern is whether or not the City would take the responsibility of maintaining the system once it was installed.  All present committee members agreed that the City will be responsible for the system once it is installed and will perform annual maintenance (blowing the pipes in the fall).  A systematic reminder will be established with the Public Works Department to perform this task on annual basis in the fall before the first frost.

DISCUSSION:         Purchase of New Trucks

ACTION:                   Ken Jeffries presented the committee with a summary from four dealerships for the purchase of two new trucks.  After reviewing the summary the committee agreed to bring to full council the approval to purchase the vehicles from South Oak Ford.

.

DISCUSSION:         Ryan Street Project

ACTION:                   Alderman Hermes stated that a timeline needs to be established to get this project completed.  The properties along Ryan Street need to be purchased as soon as possible.  The goal is to have a three lane road leading into the school.

Alderman Gilmour stated that once the Ryan Street project is completed Kankakee Street needs to be closed where it meets Kahler Road due to this corner being highly dangerous.  The committee would like to have a landscaped cul-de-sac with a turning radius for the street sweeper.  Putting up barricades to close off the street is not an option.

DISCUSSION:         Stewart Street

ACTION:                   Alderman Gilmour wanted to confirm that when Stewart Street is repaired after being torn up from installing the new sewer lines if gutters would be placed in the road.  Mayor Strong confirmed with Alderman Gilmour that there is a storm drain on Stewart Street and did not see why there would not be gutters placed in the road.  Alderman Gilmour also stated that sidewalks should be put in place.

DISCUSSION:         Water Meter Replacement

ACTION:                   Ken Jeffries presented the committee with a list of approximately sixty-five addresses where water meters have not been replaced.  The committee members encouraged Mr. Jeffries to follow the ordinance in place and send register letters to those residences with a 90-day term to comply.

Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Combes seconded to close the meeting at 6:05p.m.  All yes. Motion passed.
