DISCUSSION:           Police Chief Search

ACTION:                   Chief stated that the City can contact the Police Chief Organization to help in the process.  Roger Freitag also notified the Mayor about the COPS Organization that provides the same service.

DISCUSSION:           Miscellaneous Items

ACTION:                   Lt. Evans applied for and received a grant for bullet-proof vests. He also stated that the Crime Reduction Report was published and it showed a 33.3% overall reduction in crime.  Only Elwood is lower than Wilmington in all Will County communities.

DISCUSSION:           MANS Unit Report

ACTION:                   Master Sergeant Rich Wilk gave an overview of the MANS Unit. He and Officer Boyle went over the Wilmington area statistics.  Because the MANS Unit is active in this area it gives the police a mode where the Unit can follow through on local drug arrests by being able to pursue the line of connections in other jurisdictions.  Wilk stated that the usual time span of an officer in the MANS Unit is three years but can go as long as seven years.  Once a police officer serves his/her term then the Unit will ask for another officer to take their place.  Wilk stated that Boyle is doing a great job. Wilk also does grant required presentations.  The Committee would like to see Wilk give a local presentation and will have staff contact him to set up a presentation date.

The Committee stated that if the City makes a long term commitment to the MANS Unit then it will have to look into hiring another police officer to cover for the MANS Unit officer’s time.

DISCUSSION:           Adjournment

ACTION:                   Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Mietzner seconded to adjourn at 6:35 p.m. All yes. Motion passed.
