DISCUSSION: Radio
Tower
ACTION: Evans has given the speculations on the radio tower to Puracchio to have a bid package made up. Would like to have the ad in the paper next week and the bids to be opened on March 8. Alderman Hoppe asked for the reasoning behind the need for the tower. Hermes explained that after thoroughly researching this, the past Committee members found that 1) the tower would serve as a revenue generator by leasing out space. McIntyre said he was approached by a cell company last week. 2) After meeting with the Fire District the options for sharing a tower was not feasible and there was a chance of frequency interference. 3) The Committee has already entered into an agreement with the Elwood Fire Department and has received $40,000 towards the tower. 4) The water tower, where the radio equipment is presently located, needs to come down immediately due to safety issues as well as the price of steel is favorable.
DISCUSSION: Portable Scales
ACTION: Evans explained to the Committee how the system works. He has gotten two quotes on the cost $9,900 and $7,049, which includes a one year warranty but not maintenance. This includes 4 pads that weigh approximately 45 pounds and can be transported in a squad car. Officers Wager and R. Thomas are certified to operate the system and Evans would also like to train Delaney and new officer Soucie. Ideally two officers need to operate. It would be a random timetable. Evans has researched the fee/fine system and believes this will generate significant revenue as well as keep the wear and tear of our roadways at a minimum. There is a state ordinance in place to operate and collect fines but the City should adopt a local ordinance. McIntyre will look into this.
DISCUSSION: MAP Negotiations
ACTION: The City has not received any dates from the Union.
DISCUSSION: Police
Eligibility List
ACTION: The process for developing a new eligibility list will begin in June
according to Police Commissioner Roger Freitag.
DISCUSSION: Police
Chief Search
ACTION: The
Committee would like to begin the search in June. Hermes asked everyone to look over the qualifications they
received and bring it to the next meeting.
Evans
brought up attending Staff and Command School.
He believes that no one will attend unless they have the job. The class lasts for 10 weeks and costs
approximately $2,500. He also stated
that it is pretty intense and it would be very difficult to work while
attending.
DISCUSSION: Miscellaneous
ACTION: Evans stated he is looking into adding a full time dispatcher in his
budget for next year.
Evans
said the Department has received a 1996 Caprice Classic car from the MANS
Unit. Wilmington Collision has offered
to detail the car at no cost. Evans
asked Hermes to contact his art and tech departments. He would like them to come up with a logo for the car. The car would be used as a “parade car”.
DISCUSSION: Adjournment
ACTION: Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Hoppe seconded to adjourn at 6:07 p.m. All yes. Motion passed.
