DISCUSSION:            Police Chief Position

 

ACTION:                   Alderman Hermes made a motion and Alderman Johnston seconded to open the Police & ESDA Committee meeting at 5:31 p.m. All yes. Motion passed.

 

                                    Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Mietzner seconded to approve the minutes as written and place on file.  All yes. Motion passed.

 

                                    Alderman Hermes stated that Evans was interested in staying until May 2007.

                                               

DISCUSSION:            Towing Fees for Training

                                   

ACTION:                   Boyle explained the purpose for setting up this account was for training and equipment above what is covered in the training/equipment budget.  The Committee requested that this item be added to the City budget.

 

DISCUSSION:            Former Police Chief Car

 

ACTION:                   Evans asked the Committee if he could donate it to ESDA.  ESDA would use it as a responder car and if the Police Department needed it ESDA would loan it back.

 

                                    Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Johnston seconded to recommend to full Council the transfer of the police car to ESDA.  All yes. Motion passed

 

 

DISCUSSION:            Tower and Scales Projects

 

ACTION:                   Evans stated that scales have been ordered and should be delivered in a couple of weeks.  Boyle, Soucie, Brimer and another officer will receive training.  R. Thomas and Delaney have been previously trained. Evans stated that he worked out a deal with the company to get the scales calibrated bi-yearly.

 

                                    There will be a meeting about the tower on Tuesday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the police department.  The City Engineer will also attend.

 

DISCUSSION:            Speed Limit on RT 53 & River and No Parking on Jackson & Water.

 

ACTION:                   Evans stated that he is working with IDOT in getting the speed limit reduced to 45 mph from Kangley’s curve to when the lane splits into two.

 

                                    Evans requested that no parking be allowed on the east side of Water and Jackson due to line of site interference.  The Committee agreed.

 

DISCUSSION:            Full Time Dispatcher

 

ACTION:                   A dispatcher has resigned and the job has been posted.  Evans would like to have the replacement in by July.

 

DISCUSSION:            Executive Session

 

ACTION:                   Alderman Mietzner made a motion and Alderman Johnston seconded to go into executive session to discuss personnel issues at 5:54 p.m.  All yes.  Motion passed.

 

                                    Alderman Mietzner made a motion and Alderman Johnston seconded to come out of executive session at 6:00.  All yes. Motion passed.
