DISCUSSION:           Hearings Status

 

ACTION:                   Alderman Johnston made a motion and Alderman Hoppe seconded to open the Police & ESDA Committee meeting at 5:31 p.m. All yes. Motion passed.

 

                                    Alderman Hoppe made a motion and Alderman Gilmour seconded to approve the minutes as written and place on file.  All yes. Motion passed.

 

Rhonda Thomas’ 5 day suspension was upheld by the Police Commission. Brandon Ragsdale’s hearing was continued to October 18.

 

DISCUSSION:           Antenna/Building Update

 

ACTION:                   The antenna is up.  There is a marked difference in transmissions.  Within the next two weeks the City will be moving forward with the demolition of the pump house.

 

DISCUSSION:           Police Chief Search

                                   

ACTION:                   Hermes requested that everyone get their comments to him based on the information that was distributed.  A job description will be drawn up at the next meeting so the City can post the job by January.

 

                                    The Committee agreed to establish a screening committee to review applications and make recommendations.

 

 

 

DISCUSSION:           Vehicle Lease Program

 

ACTION:                   Chief Evans stated at the present there are 10 cars in the fleet.  2 cars are specialty – canine and investigator. Evans went over mileage figures on each car. Ed from South Oak Ford presented options and figures for a lease program. (See attached).  After much discussion the Committee will ask the accounting supervisor to come up with a vehicle replacement policy that will reflect a practical feasible solution.  The Committee asked Evans to supply the supervisor with the complete cost of a car, retro-fittings, installation, etc.

 

DISCUSSION:           Miscellaneous

 

ACTION:                   Mayor Strong asked the Chief to get some costs on security cameras that can be installed throughout the City.

 

                                    McIntyre asked the Committee if they would be interested in putting an ad in an independent distributor’s informational drug booklet that will be going out to area parents. The full page ad would cost $769.  The Committee tabled the discussion.

 

                                    City Stickers- The Committee questioned the City sticker sales.  Evans stated that he received a memo from the accounting supervisor to start ticketing cars for lack of stickers because revenue was down. Orr suggested the possibility of just adding a fee to the water bill.

 

                                    Evans stated that as of September 18, 8 officers have voluntarily been drug tested and all officers have passed.
