CITY OF WILMINGTON
POLICE AND ESDA COMMITTEE MEETING
MONDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2006

5:30 P.M.
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. Upon roll call, City Council Members Joe Hermes, Councilman Jonathan Mietzner and Councilwoman Helen Hoppe were present. Mayor Roy Strong, Police Chief Wally Evans, Deputy Police Chief Mike Boyle and City Administrator John McIntyre were also present, and Administrator McIntyre also served as acting recording secretary for the meeting.
Councilman Hoppe made a motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting, seconded by Councilman Mietzner. The motion passed 3-0.

Police Chief Evans then announced that there were two final candidates for the open police officer position, and was looking at another part-time dispatcher. Overtime has been a problem for a while, but will hopefully be resolved at some point.
The Committee then discussed the process for hiring the new Police Chief. Administrator McIntyre handed out the latest draft of the help-wanted ad, including desired experience and educational qualifications.
Police Chief Evans and Councilman Mietzner updated the Committee on the progress made with the drug prevention program. It has generated both enthusiasm and interest from the citizens.
Also discussed was the situation regarding the abandon train station and its eventual demolition or removal, staffing issues at the Police Department. The MAP contract was very briefly discussed.
Administrator McIntyre will meet with Police Chief Evans to discuss the best publications for running the new Police Chief ad.
There being no further business, Councilman Mietzner made a motion to adjourn, seconded my Councilwoman Hoppe, and the meeting was adjourned at 6:07 p.m..
