Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Combes seconded to approve the minutes as written and placed on file. All yes. Motion passed.
Evans explained that the Department is requesting four officers and five
squad cars. He stated the squad cars
that he has now are running up high maintenance costs and monies are now coming
in from court fines. He believes the
department would be writing enough tickets to cover additional costs. Committee
also noted that his overtime should reflect a decrease instead of an increase
due to department changes. And finally,
the Committee didn’t think Evans gas & oil figures reflected the necessary
increase.
The Committee stated that the proposed budget is not balanced and the
Council will not pass it as is. Evans
stated he just submitted a “wish budget” and expected things to be cut.
Evans also stated that the Elwood Police Department would like to enter
into an agreement with the City for dispatch services. They have asked for a three year contract at
$70, $75, $80,000. This will cover
additional dispatchers to service Elwood calls. Evans stated that 911 is looking into consolidating Wilmington,
Braidwood and Elwood if possible and would cover the majority of the conversion
costs. At this time Elwood is building
a new police department and it would probably be more advantageous to locate
the dispatch center there. City staff
will be meeting with all parties to move forward on this proposal.
DISCUSSION: Adjournment
