DISCUSSION:           Minutes

 

ACTION:                   Alderman Hermes made a motion and Alderman Gilmour seconded to open discussions at 5:30 p.m. All yes. Motion passed.

 

                                    Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Mietzner seconded to Approve the Minutes from the April 11, 2005 meeting as written.  All yes.  Motion passed.

                                   

DISCUSSION:           Generator

 

ACTION:                   Chief Metta stated the switch has been installed and Clennon Electric should complete the project Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.

 

DISCUSSION:           Building Tear Down

 

ACTION:                   The Chief brought the new Committee members up to speed on the project. The building tear down has been bidded out.  Bids are due by May 25.  

 

DISCUSSION:           Greater Will County Emergency Service Assoc.

 

ACTION:                   Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Johnston seconded to direct ESDA to join this organization for $50 per year.  All yes.  Motion passed.

 

DISCUSSION:           Request for Towing Company be added to Police Tow List

 

ACTION:                   Fox’s Marathon has been on the Tow list previously, however the owner has died and the new owners would like to be added.  They have provided all the necessary documents and insurance.

 

                                    Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Mietzner seconded to add K.V. Oil Corp to the Police Tow List and bring before Council for full approval.  All yes.  Motion passed.

 

DISCUSSION:           Weight Scale

 

ACTION:                   Chief gave the Committee an overview of instituting this program.  There are three officers on the force that have been trained in weight scale enforcement.  There has been an increased amount of truck traffic and fines could bring in $1,000 per offense.  The machine costs from $8,000-$9,000.  The machine will need to be certified every year which involves bringing it to Springfield. Mayor Strong asked to consider a joint purchase with surrounding communities to cut down on costs.  The Committee advised the Chief to research all the costs of this program; certifications, maintenance, police time, etc. and present the findings at the next Committee meeting.

 

DISCUSSION:           Identity Theft Seminar

 

ACTION:                   Grundy Bank is sponsoring this seminar and the State is presenting. They would like the use of the City’s facilities on Wednesday, July 13 at 6:30. The Committee agreed to present this for full Council approval at the next meeting.

 

DISCUSSION:           Miscellaneous Items

 

ACTION:                   Burnt House on Joliet Street.  Alderman Gilmour has been receiving a lot of feedback from the neighbors and has spoken with the City Attorney.  There is nothing the City can do while it is being processed in the Court system. 

                                   

                                    Dangerous Animal Ordinance.  A Municipality cannot label a specific breed as being dangerous.  Chief stated that he is researching this.  Mayor Strong stated that he has received a letter from a resident who was concerned about this and will make sure everyone receives a copy.

 

                                    Homeland Security Grant.  Chief would like to pursue this.  The Council would have to pass a resolution.  The Committee will review this and present at the second June Council Meeting.

 

                                    Part-Time Officers.  Wilmington has lost two part-time officers.  The Chief would like to put a want ad in the paper for two more.
