DISCUSSION:           Tower Update

 

ACTION:                   Alderman Johnston made a motion and Alderman Gilmour seconded to open the Police & ESDA Committee meeting at 5:30 p.m. All yes. Motion passed.

 

                                    Alderman Hoppe made a motion and Alderman Gilmour seconded to approve the minutes as written and place on file.  All yes. Motion passed.

 

                                    Puracchio stated the city engineer dropped off the bid packet for the tower.  The total cost will be approximately $88,000.  A soil boring will have to be done at a cost of $1,737.60.  $71,800 has been budgeted for the project. The bid includes the present antenna system that exists on the water tower along with 2 additional antenna systems for future use.  The bid opening is scheduled for July 27 at 10 a.m.

 

DISCUSSION:           Scale Update

                                   

ACTION:                   Boyle stated three officers were trained and three other officers were recertified on the scale system.  The scales have been ordered and should be arriving sometime this month.

 

DISCUSSION:           Skate Park

 

ACTION:                   Hermes opened the discussion with a list of things that need to happen to cut down on the vandalism at the Children’s Memorial Park. Security measures; lighting and security camera, changing the park hours, and citizens need to get involved by reported incidents.

 

                                    To date there have been approximately 40 police calls since the park opened in all ranges of offenses. An ordinance will be passed at the next Council meeting reflecting a change of park hours.

 

                                    Hill stated that the park benches are being removed tomorrow to cut down on the destruction. It was suggested to put in metal tables.

 

                                    The Committee directed McIntyre to look into the costs of vandal proof lighting and a security camera. The Committee also stated that it is not interested in closing the park just maintaining a safe environment for park users as well as residents in the area.

 

DISCUSSION:           Executive Session

 

ACTION:                   Alderman Mietzner made a motion and Alderman Gilmour seconded to go into executive session to discuss personnel issues at 5:52 p.m.  All yes.  Motion passed.

 

                                    Alderman Mietzner made a motion and Alderman Johnston seconded to come out of executive session at 6:05.  All yes. Motion passed.

                                   

                                    The Committee directed Boyle to look into hiring part time officers.  Boyle stated they have received applications for part time positions.

 

                                    The Committee directed Boyle to post in-house the position for full time dispatcher.  This position will be in the replacement of an additional police officer due to budget constraints.
