DISCUSSION:           Police Hiring’s

 

ACTION:                   Alderman Hermes made a motion and Alderman Brown seconded to open discussions at 5:31 p.m. All yes. Motion passed.

 

Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Brown seconded to approve the minutes as written and have them placed on file. All yes. Motion passed.

 

Roger Freitag stated that there were 44 applications, 27 at orientation, 9 passed the written and 6 passed the oral.  He and Alderman Gilmour are checking into a lateral transfer policy.  The process to develop the police active list costs $5,000-$6,000. The Commission will have a final list on Thursday and the Council should be able to vote on hiring at the next Council meeting.  Chief Metta said that November 17 the officers can begin their training.

 

DISCUSSION:           Police Antenna

 

ACTION:                   Larry Yonkers from Cyber Broadcasting distributed a document stating his cost analysis on the effects of moving his equipment to various


locations in the City.  The City has a five-year contract that began in 2003 with Cyber Broadcasting.  Chief Metta stated he has received three bids for a microwave system but he still needed a tower for some of their equipment.  The Fire District Board stated they have a 200 foot tower and designed for additional antennas.  Their connection is by phone line. They also have an internet company using their tower who are in the process of upgrading to 900 MHz.  Larry Yonkers stated this might cause interference with other systems.  The Committee thanked the Fire Board for attending the meeting.

 

DISCUSSION:           Generator

 

ACTION:                   Alderman Strong asked the Chief to find out if it’s possible to refurbish the generator the Department already owns and to get a quote.

 

DISCUSSION:           MAPS Contract

 

ACTION:                   The Committee received a copy of the Contract.  The Police Union has signed.  The Committee will bring it to a full Council vote.

 

DISCUSSION:           COPS Grant

 

ACTION:                   The Chief stated they didn’t get it.

 

DISCUSSION:           Police Records

 

ACTION:                   The Police Department is in need of storing confidential records.  Alderman Kasalko said the yellow building is now available.  Sheryl will speak with Gary Van Duyne about securing the windows and adding a steel door.
