DISCUSSION: Retrofitting Squad Cars
Alderman Hermes made a motion and Alderman Kasalko seconded to open discussions at 5:30 p.m. All yes. Motion passed.
Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Kasalko seconded to approve the minutes as written and have them placed on file. All yes. Motion passed.
ACTION: Chief Metta stated that it would cost $15,900 to retrofit the three new squad cars. The Committee asked that when there is a discussion on the price of a squad car that the Chief include the full price of putting a car on the road.
Alderman Hermes made a motion and Alderman Gilmour seconded to Recommend approval of retrofitting the three new squad cars at a price not to exceed $15,900. All yes. Motion passed.
ACTION: Chief Metta stated that he was in the process of going through the last two candidates on the active list. The two candidates were not officers and would have to receive full training.
ACTION: Chief Metta is expecting to hear if the City received the grant the first week of September.
DISCUSSION: Modular Building
ACTION: The Chief stated that the architect-Mike Sparks asked for $2,500 to do a feasibility study on compartmentalizing the original plan. The Committee declined his offer.
The water tower and pump house has to come down. The Committee agreed to meet at the Police Station on Thursday at 8am to assess where the new tower could be located.
DISCUSSION: Generator
ACTION: Chief has not received any additional information. Alderman Hermes will speak to Alderman Plese about receiving a generator from JADA.
ACTION: Chief Metta stated the dispatcher is working out great. She has notified the Chief of her pregnancy and said she will only need a week off.
DISCUSSION: Investigator’s Car
ACTION: Chief Metta said that the Investigator’s car was a 1994 with 165,000 miles on it and in need of constant repairs. South Oak Ford has a Dodge Intrepid
available for $11,500 which includes the trade in price for the old car. The Committee asked about the car that was obtained from a drug arrest and Officer Lyons said that it was a manual and he couldn’t use it. The Committee pointed out the fact that the Police Department has just received four new vehicles this past year. Alderman Kasalko said she would speak with the City Financial Administrator, Nick Narducci to see if funds were even available for another vehicle purchase. Officer Lyons said he had the car in the parking lot in case the Committee wanted to look at it.
DISCUSSION: Vendor, Semi-Truck, Insurance Card
for Squads
ACTION: The Committee asked the Chief if he would check into the vendor on the Island, and the semi-truck that has been parked on Baltimore and Water Street for the past two weeks. Alderman Strong asked if Police Cars carry insurance cards and Chief Metta stated they have documentation in the cars.
