City Council

November 2, 2004

 

Mayor, Tony McGann, presiding.

 

The meeting was called to order with a pledge to the flag.

 

The clerk called the roll finding the following Aldermen present: Brown, Strong, Kasalko, Gilmour, Melhorn and Cox.

 

Absent: Hermes and Plese.

 

Alderman Brown made a motion and Alderman Cox seconded to Accept the Minutes of the October 19, 2004 meeting as written and have them placed on file. Melhorn passed. All others yes. Motion passed.

 

Mayor’s Report: Mayor McGann asked that the students from Mr. Moir’s class stand and introduce themselves. The Council stated their approval of the students coming to see how their City government works.

 

The Mayor introduced Josh Himes as Student of the Month.  Josh just achieved Eagle Scout status.  He is a recent graduate of Wilmington High School and currently attending Joliet Junior High School.

 

Citizen’s Comments: There were no comments.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Nothing to report at this time.

 

Planning and Zoning Committee:  Next scheduled meeting is Thursday, December 2 at 7pm.

 

Police Commission:  Nothing to report at this time.

 

DRC: Alderman Cox stated there was nothing to report at this time but he would like to recognize Executive Secretary Sheryl Puracchio for going outside of the bounds of her job to assist in the Prairie Lane issue.

 

Health/Safety/Building/Grounds Committee: Nothing to report at this time.

 

Water/Sewer/Streets/Alleys Committee: The next Water/Sewer/Streets/Alleys Committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 10, at 6:00 p.m.

 

Police and ESDA Committee: Alderman Gilmour stated two officer candidates are in the process of going through the psychological and background testing phase.

 

The next meeting will be Monday, November 8 at 5:30 p.m.

 

Finance/Administration/Land Acquisition Committee:  The Attorney for the Strubin Annexation addressed the Council.  The Council explained to him and Mr. Strubin that this was the first time they were looking at the annexation and they would need some time to look it over and address some issues.  Mayor McGann said that they would try to have everything straightened out by the next Council meeting.

 

The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 16 at 6:30 p.m.

 

Ordinance and License Committee:  Nothing to report at the time.

 

The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 9 at 5:30 p.m.

 

Personnel and Insurance Committee: Alderman Kasalko made a motion and Alderman Brown seconded to Go into Executive Session at 7:16 p.m. to discuss Personnel Issues. All yes.  Motion passed.  Water and Sewer Superintendent Ken Jeffries and City Administrator Rob Nelis were asked to attend.

 

Alderman Brown made a motion and Alderman Gilmour seconded to Come out of Executive Session at 7:25 p.m.  All yes.  Motion carried.

 

Alderman Kasalko made a motion and Alderman Melhorn seconded to Approve the Recommendation of Staff to Terminate the Employment of Patricia Pritchard, effective immediately.  All yes.  Motion passed. 

 

JADA:  Nothing to report at this time.

 

City Administrator’s Report:  Rob Nelis stated that he is in the learning mode at this time.

 

Attorney’s Report: Nothing to report at this time.

 

Alderman Brown made a motion and Alderman Kasalko seconded to Adjourn the Meeting at 7:24 p.m. All yes. Motion passed.
