City Council

May 16, 2006

 

Mayor Pro Tem Marty Orr, presiding.

 

The meeting was called to order with the pledge to the flag.

 

The clerk called the roll finding the following Aldermen present: Hermes, Strong, Gilmour, Johnston, Orr, Plese, and Hoppe.

 

Absent: Mayor Strong, Mietzner

 

Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Johnston seconded to have Alderman Orr serve as Mayor Pro Tem in the absence of Mayor Strong.  All yes.  Motion passed.

 

Alderman Hoppe made a motion and Alderman Strong seconded to Approve the Minutes of the May 2, 2006 meeting as presented and have them placed on file. All yes. Motion passed.

 

Mayor’s Report: There will be a Heartland Blood Drive on Friday, May 19 from 3-7 p.m.

 

Citizen’s Comments:  There were none.

 

Planning and Zoning Committee: Attorney John Martin representing Chalen Parrish of Homes by Chalen addressed the Council on the Deer Creek Subdivision on the Ropp’s Farm. This property was annexed in the early 1970’s and the south half was platted along with the annexation.  The subdivision will have 98 single family homes and 112 townhouses. Parrish stated that he will have to replace the bridge because it is too narrow and has structural damage. Parrish also stated that he would be happy to speak with the schools about a fee structure since his fees are based off of 1970’s rates.

 

Alderman Johnston made a motion and Alderman Gilmour seconded to approve the preliminary plat for the Deer Creek Subdivision.  All yes. Motion passed.

 

Next scheduled meeting will be June 1, 2006 at 7 p.m.

 

Health/Safety/Building/Grounds Committee: Nothing to report at this time.

 

Water/Sewer/Streets/Alleys Committee:  Alderman Gilmour stated that the sidewalk project has begun but the rain has been slowing down the project.

 

Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Johnston seconded to hire two seasonal employees for the Public Works Department at a rate of $9.00 per hour.  All yes. Motion passed.

 

Next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, June 14 at 5:30 p.m.

 

Police and ESDA Committee: Alderman Hermes stated there was no Police Committee meeting this month.

 

The next meeting will be Monday, June 12 at 5:30 p.m.

 

 

Finance/Administration/Land Acquisition Committee:  Alderman Plese made a motion and Alderman Hermes seconded to approve the April Collector’s Report in the amount of $181,588.16 and the April Payables in the amount of $197,126.28.  All yes. Motion passed.

 

The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m.

 

Ordinance and License Committee:  The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 13, at 6:00 p.m.

 

Personnel and Insurance Committee: Nothing to report at this time.

 

JADA:  Nothing to report at this time.

 

City Administrator Report:  John McIntyre reported that the Peotone Airport Project will be getting some attention when the ALNAC group develops a huge publicity campaign to gather support from the Governor.

 

McIntyre also included information on Senate Bills concerning zoning and eminent domain.  He stated that he recently acquired his Master’s in Public Administration after four years of effort.

 

Attorney’s Report: Attorney Hanson stated he had nothing to report at this time.

 

Alderman Strong made a motion and Alderman Plese seconded to appoint Brian Humphrey to the Planning & Zoning Commission for a five year term. Gilmour passed.  All others yes.  Motion passed.

 

Alderman Hoppe made a motion and Alderman Johnston seconded to Adjourn the Meeting at 7:25

 p.m. All yes. Motion passed.
