City Council
November 7, 2006
Mayor Roy Strong, presiding.
The meeting was called to order with the pledge to the flag.
The clerk called the roll finding the following Aldermen present: Mietzner, Strong, Gilmour, Hermes, Johnston, Orr, Plese, and Hoppe.
Absent:
Alderman Gilmour made a motion and Alderman Orr seconded to Approve the Minutes of the October 17, 2006 meeting as presented, and have them placed on file. All yes. Motion passed.
Mayor’s Report: The Mayor expressed his appreciation for the services of Alderman Sue Johnston and City Clerk Jim Johnston. The Mayor presented Jim with an Outstanding Service award for over 37 years of service and an engraved pocket watch. Everyone was invited to have cake and soft drinks, and to attend tomorrow’s open house for Jim from 3 – 6 p.m.
The Mayor introduced the two candidates interested in the appointment for the City Clerk position; Shelia Long and Tim Thomason. Each gave a brief biography.
Citizen’s Comments: Scott Cameron, representing the Downtown Merchants, thanked the City for the downtown streetlight project. He distributed a flyer of upcoming events sponsored by the Route 66 Corridor from Joliet to Dwight.
Planning and Zoning Committee:
Alderman Orr made a
motion and Alderman Mietzner seconded to Approve Ordinance 06-11-07-01 granting
a variance with regard to reduce house size to 1,200 square feet at 503
Kankakee River Drive. (PIN 17-25-110-045) All yes. Motion passed.
Next scheduled meeting will be December 7, 2006 at 7 p.m.
Health/Safety/Building/Grounds
Committee: Nothing to report at
this time.
Water/Sewer/Streets/Alleys
Committee: Next scheduled
meeting is Wednesday, November 15 at 5:30 p.m.
Police and ESDA
Committee: The next scheduled meeting will be Monday, November 13 at 5:30
p.m.
Finance/Administration/Land Acquisition Committee:
Alderman Hermes made
a motion and Alderman Plese seconded to Approve the September Payables in
the amount of $60,925.35. All yes.
Motion passed.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, December 19, at 6:30 p.m.
Ordinance and License Committee: Alderman Orr held the second readings for the Install a Traffic Control Device Ordinance and the Minimum Age Ordinance in regards to a Stop Sign at Becky and Vista and a 3 Way Stop Sign at Debbie and Vista; and a Stop Sign at Kahler and Luther.
Alderman Orr made a
motion and Alderman Hoppe seconded to Approve Ordinance #06-11-07-02 an
Ordinance Defining Minor Variances and Authorizing Administrative Approval of
the Same.
All yes. Motion passed.
The next scheduled meeting is for Tuesday, November 14, at 6:00 p.m.
Personnel and Insurance Committee: Nothing to report at this time.
JADA: Nothing to report at this time.
City Administrator Report: McIntyre reported that the Visitors Center at Claire’s Corner is being cleaned out and renovated. He also stated that Jim and Sue Johnston will be missed and there will be an open house celebration tomorrow at City Hall from 3-6 p.m.
Attorney’s Report: Attorney Mahoney had nothing to report.
Executive Session: Nothing at this time.
